The Referral Process
For Providers
Sometimes, the need to refer a patient for eating disorder treatment is clear. Other times, a person’s unique combination of signs and symptoms can make diagnosis more challenging. Starting with a conversation between your team and ours will help us all determine:
- The likelihood an eating disorder exists in a given patient.
- The intensity of treatment program that will most likely meet the patient’s needs.
- Extenuating circumstances you may be aware of that can help us better serve your patient.
You may find our eating disorder assessment tool helpful in determining treatment needs for your patient. However, if you are still unsure, or you would simply like to learn more about our program, give us a call.
Or if you are ready to refer a patient to us, fax us a face sheet with your most recent visit note to 406.571.7956. We will then reach out to the referred patient to schedule an initial call.
To refer a patient under the age of 18, please fax the following to 406.571.7956:
- Patient growth charts
- Recent labs
- Last two visit notes

Communication with referred patient
Understandably, most people considering treatment for an eating disorder approach the decision with significant hesitancy. Common barriers to entering treatment for patients often include:
- Concerns about missing school or work
- Insurance coverage
- Financial burden
- Traveling to our location and lodging availability
- Admitting to disordered eating
Our staff takes pre-admission conversations with patients extremely seriously. By addressing these common barriers up front, we can often instill comfort and confidence in the idea of treatment before an individual ever steps foot through our doors. If you have a patient who is considering treatment, but is afraid to take that next step, have them give us a call.
